Budget 2006 - Wednesday 22nd March

In his 2006 Financial Statement and Budget Report on Wednesday, 22nd March 2006, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that:

“The Government will remove the current exemption for employer-provided equipment from 6 April 2006 (BN30).”

This is the tax exemption that underpins Home Computing Initiatives.

This does not affect schemes already underway where computers have already been delivered to staff, and where contracts have been signed between employers and employees, but the equipment has still to be delivered.

The HCI Alliance is currently discussing this decision and its implications with the Government. Updates will be posted to this website as soon as they become available.
